Training, art and craftsmanship
Training and Work are among the main and most important benefits expected from the realization of the PONTIS Project. The situation of adolescents, young adults and many people without work is a real challenge that calls us to act urgently.
The concept of training in the project idea includes various areas that interact with each other:
- School of Biodynamic Agriculture
- Buildings in raw earth
- Craft, Art – including the Social Art
- PPedagogy of the Contemporary Circus and training for instructors
The Land and the Crafts
The restauration of the architectural complex of Casa Sedda-Mastio
The purpose is to restore the buildings paying particular attention to the identity character of the building through interventions that respect the traditional construction techniques and the architectural typologies.
The project involves a sustainable architectural approach that is aimed at involving the local workers, giving young people and adults the opportunity to recover the knowledge and skills related to the ability to make cob buildings
A group of students and recent graduates in architecture, under the guidance of Dr. Maddalena Achenza, have been working for a few years on the planning and preliminary calculation of the costs of the entire work. This group is expected to cooperate also in the executive phase within the respective competences.
Craft workshops – Teaching of Ancient Crafts
In the Sardinian tradition craftsmanship plays a very important role and is particularly beautiful, as can be seen in weaving, weaving of baskets, goldsmithery, ceramics, woodworking and ironwork. This is also demonstrated by bread-making, pastry making, processing of agricultural products and construction in raw earth.
Quality is an important criterion that must be combined with beauty.
Fortunately, there are still people who can and want to pass on their knowledge to young people before they are lost.
In the restoration of the ancient Casa Sedda / Mastio Compendium, respecting the activities historically carried out in these buildings, spaces are available to be used for handicraft workshops, such as weaving, basket weaving, ceramics, candle making, carpentry, bakery, etc . allowing you to work, teach and learn..
School of Biodynamic Agriculture
Increasingly, this approach to agriculture is proving capable of producing excellent quality food, as it can be seen from the international recognition in the vine field, to increase the fertility of the land, see the results of FIBL-DOK , research, becoming more and more a source of solutions for the problems that emerge in agriculture.
Its application and study increasingly meets the attention of the agricultural, scientific and university world. Likewise its methods for assessing food quality.
The Biodynamic company’s project idea is initially based on the activation of internships and apprenticeships in biodynamics, with the hope that in the future it will be possible to create a School of Training in Biodynamic Agriculture, permanently structured in the company.
The game is active learning: The circus is a game in movement, through the movement the child learns to know himself and others, often developing unexpected potential.
Tolerance and sensitivity: lthe pedagogy of the contemporary circus makes the child, boy, teenager aware of their own needs and those of others. The experience of the circus creates capacity for acceptance, the “defects” are transformed into merits.
Responsibility and social intelligence: IPedagogical circus work teaches responsibility towards oneself, towards others and towards tools. Elements of acting, imagination, of miming and reciting the movement offer possibilities for growth, also through moments of crisis protected by an attentive and loving social context.
Application and concentration: the circus arts require continuous application and concentration. The positive effects can be seen in the learning of contents and techniques of traditional subjects.
The founders and main teachers, Sigrid Federspiel and Dr. Benno Weissteiner, of the “Circomix” Contemporary Circus School in Vintl (Bolzano) have already started a collaboration with the Pontis project for a few years:
Biennial Circus Pedagogy Courses for instructors to offer adults the opportunity for individual growth paths and new professional possibilities.
Summer workshops and the start of a stable School of Contemporary Pedagogical Circus for children and young people
The integration of artistic and cultural elements is essential for the social and cultural life of the project.
In the operation of functional recovery and of the Sedda / Mastio compendium, creative spaces are planned for the artists in order to create laboratories and artistic residences. Part of the artifacts (e.g. sculptures) may be exhibited in the context of the ancient compendium, in the farm or in the public spaces of the village.
Culture and social integration
In the art labs, adolescents and young people who are at risk of marginalization will be able to discover themselves and rebuild their self-esteem.
Even artistic therapy initiatives are easy to integrate into these environments.
Cultural events are planned within Casa Sedda / Mastio as concerts, lectures, theatrical performances, artistic workshops and symposia.
